Dinosaurs Baby Storytime
Choose one of the following dinosaur-themed baby storytime books and pair it with a few of these songs and playtime ideas for more engagement and fun in your next Baby Storytime. I recommend repeating many of your rhymes and movement songs each week (repetition is key for cognitive development), but sprinkling in new thematic songs and activities, such as those below, will keep things fresh and engaging.

Dinosaur Baby Storytime Songs & Rhymes
Here are my favorite dinosaur-themed movement songs and rhymes for babies.
Five Little Dinosaurs Sitting in the Sun
Place five dinos on a board and remove one when appropriate, or hold up five fingers.
Five little dinosaurs sitting in the sun
How many are left if I take away one?
Four little dinosaurs sitting in the sun…
Three little dinosaurs…
Two little dinosaurs…
One last dinosaur sitting in the sun?
How many are left if I take the last one?
None!

The Dino With Big Feet
Sing to the tune “The Wheels on the Bus.”
The dino with big feet went stomp, stomp, stomp
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp
The dino with big feet went stomp, stomp, stomp
All through the swamp.
The dino with big wings went flap, flap, flap…
The dino with a tail went shake, shake, shake…
The hungry dino went roar, roar, roar…
Three Little Dinos with Mama Dino Puppet
Sing to the tune “Five Little Ducks.” Hold up five fingers and count down with the song, or place five dino images on a flannel or magnet board. If you have a dino puppet, hold it up as “Mama” with one hand and use your other hand to take little dinos off the board.
Three little dinos went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mama dino said, “Roar, roar, roar, roar.”
But only two little dinos came back.
Two little dinos…
One little dino…
Sad mama dino went out one day
Over the hill and far away
Mama dino said, “Roar, roar, roar, roar”
And all three little dinos came back!
All the Little Dinos
All the little dinos love bouncing, bouncing
All the little dinos love to bounce
All the little dinos love bouncing, bouncing
All the little dinos love to bounce
Lean to the left
Lean to the right
Hug your little dino nice and tight
If You’re Happy & You Know It with (Dino!) Shaker Eggs
If you’re happy and you know it shake your egg
If you’re happy and you know it shake your egg
If you’re happy and you know it and you really want to show it
If you’re happy and you know it shake your egg
…Tap your toes
…Shake up high
Dinosaur Baby Playtime Activities
Ending storytime with free play is an excellent way for babies and caregivers to socialize and observe others. You don’t need anything fancy. Simply setting out blocks, musical instruments, or bean bags would suffice, but here are some dinosaur-themed ideas to further enhance your program.
Dinosaur Puppets

Nothing captures a baby’s attention quite like a puppet. Set one or more out for free play or walk around to let babies “pet” the dinosaur. Our Baby T-Rex Hand Puppet from The Puppet Company has been well-loved in both our baby and preschool storytimes for years.
Dinosaur Sorting Toy

We’ve used this Montessori Sorting Colors Dinosaur during playtime in our weekly storytimes for the past 2 years, and it’s still going strong!
