Silly Sensory Storytime for Lots of Laughs
Get the Giggles by Andy J. Pizza and Sophie Miller is my favorite book for exploring laughter, giggles, and all things silly with toddlers, preschoolers, and children of all abilities. Children love the opportunity to loudly “Hee-Hee”, “Hmm”, and “Sss!” Pair Get the Giggles with one or more of these silly books, songs, crafts, and play ideas for more engagement and fun in your next Sensory Storytime.

Silly Sensory Storytime Movement Songs
Put Your Hands Up High
Sing this silly song to the tune of “Do Your Ears Hang Low.” Repeat the song three times, singing faster and faster each time.
Put your hands up high
Put your hands down low
Put your hands in the middle
And wiggle just so
Put your elbows in the front
Put your elbows in the back
Put your elbows to the side
And quack quack quack (flap elbows like wings)
Shake Your Sillies Out with Shaker Eggs
This classic Raffi song is storytime gold for kids of all ages. However, the recorded version is a bit fast, so I prefer to sing it a cappella for Sensory Storytime to help kiddos catch on to the words and movements. Learn the tune via this video from Raffi.
We gotta shake, shake, shake our sillies out
Shake, shake, shake our sillies out
Shake, shake, shake our sillies out
And wiggle our waggles away
We gotta tap, tap, tap…
We gotta jump, jump, jump…
We gotta yawn, yawn, yawn…
Pig On Her Head by The Laurie Berkner Band with Puppets
Just like “Shake Your Sillies Out,” this song is FANTASTIC, but the recorded version is too fast. Sing it a cappella and put animal puppets or stuffies on your head as you sing. I recommend learning the tune and substituting animal names with those of your choice. Kids will LOVE watching you pull different puppets out of a bag or bucket, so do your best to keep them hidden. You could also provide attendees with puppets or bean bags to put on their heads, too!
Marta has a pig on her head
Marta has a pig on her head
Marta has a pig on her head
And she keeps it there all day
Now I’ve got a cow on my head
Now I’ve got a cow on my head
Now I’ve got a cow on my head
And I keep it there all day
Now I’ve got a bird on my head…
We’ve all got animals on our heads…
Spaghetti Legs by Jim Gill
This song pairs perfectly with Silly Sally and a Rainbow Spaghetti Sensory bin.
If my legs were made of spaghetti
I’ll tell you what I would do
I’d wiggle and wriggle and shake and jiggle
And hope my arms were not too
If my arms…head…whole body…
Silly Sensory Play & Craft Activities
Ending Sensory Storytime with free play provides children and their caregivers with an excellent opportunity to explore and socialize. Here are great silly-themed play activities.
Rainbow Spaghetti Sensory Bin

How silly is brightly colored spaghetti?! All you’ll need is cooked spaghetti, olive oil, food coloring, and a big ziploc bag. For detailed instructions, see the Easy Rainbow Spaghetti Recipe from Little Bins for Little Hands. Even if you make a single color batch, kids will still have a blast squishing, squeezing, and running their hands through the wiggly wriggly spaghetti.
