Welcome!
I’m Marta-Kate Jackson, a Youth Services Librarian & Manager from Michigan with over 15 years of experience in public libraries, and on a mission to help you spread the joy of reading.
In addition to serving the public, I’ve had the pleasure of giving presentations to librarians, teachers, and early childhood professionals on program development and cross-library collaboration. I was a founding member of the Livingston Early Literacy Collaborative, served on the Michigan Library Association’s 2017 Mitten Award Work Group, and have never said no to a caramel latte.
Here at The Youth Desk, you’ll find program plans, outreach ideas, and bookish inspiration for use in the library, classroom, and home. I hope these resources brighten your day and help you to spend less time planning and more time connecting with your readers.
I also hope this site fosters a positive community and reminds librarians and educators that their village is vast. Even if we never meet, I’m a part of your village and you’re a part of mine. When we collaborate, nothing short of magic happens for our children and the communities they belong to.
Please don’t hesitate to share your own insights by commenting on posts. Your questions and expertise are valuable and move us all forward as professionals and people.
This site includes my personal views and not those of my employer.
I’m so excited to learn from you and share the joy of reading together.
